Chevy soup

Image
Because I want to monitor the progress I started live streaming here :  https://www.twitch.tv/vonkluver   Right now it's Chevy soup time on the Nevada head lamp bucket number 1  Had a rusty adjuster that I tried the beeswax and heat method in with success then brush up the contacts rig and fill

Stripping the Nevada sourced parts has begun. It's amazing the quality of the assembly and the familiarity of the design. My 61 MG has some of the same traits as the 41-46 Truck, making things almost second nature. My grandmas 50 DeSoto was truck like as well.  The head lamp assembly has already been a rust challenge - some of the mount studs snapped off despite heat and liquid wrench so I'll get spares sorted. They are like a carriage bolt pressed into the stamped steel, not even spot welded.  The turn signals came off no issue and now it's removing the glass and the trim before dealing with the desert and rust.  I will try electrolysis again with all the complex curves and pockets and books and crevices.  Funny the wire harness was in good shape and I bet this lamp will work (6 volts).  I suppose we will see how it all goes

Seemed like a good deal and a local who was a Russell from way back before me guy checked it out for me in person before I went. Seller was a gentleman as was his helper and the load was via fork lift !  Legit parts and a great drive in the hot southeast of California  Peaceful  U Haul open 5x7 towed like a dream  Del Taco stop at Baker  Palm Desert stop at mom in laws was toasty  Back home and cleaning the rust with the electrolysis process

The adventure begins

Howdy. Welp, the deal was struck thanks for the assistance of Chris Roamer who checked out the grill assembly and fenders etc. Fitment ✅ ✅ Money order sent and received to the Gentleman in Pahrump, Nevada.  ✅ Tools packed ✅ Tie Downs packed  ✅ Hitch installed ✅ Hitch wired with the Curt CRV kit and You Tube Curt channel ✅ Hitch receiver (different drops) packed ✅ U Haul trailer reserved  ✅ Propane torch ordered for rusty nasty bolts and a locking hitch pin ✅ Route planned and organized days - places to couch surf and with a goal to avoid the worst of holiday traffic ✅ Expectations kept at a low with the belief that something always takes more time than planned and things happen Wish me luck
